What salary do you expect?. Salary is my first priority because it is the primary motivation to give my best to your company but I wouldn’t expect beyond my standard, expecting as per industrial standards. Use below method when answering the “What salary do you expect?” question and you’ll blow the hiring manager away…

What salary do you expect?

This question attempts to make the candidate a little confused and nervous so that the interviewer can gain by striking the deal with you towards the lower end of the salary scale. It’s very similar to a business deal where a buyer tries to get the product at the lowest possible price. It is you who has to take charge of the situation and make sure that YOU DON’T SELL YOURSELF FOR LESSER THAN WHAT YOU DESERVE.

The following guidelines might help you

  • Be bold and don’t hesitate while answering.
  • Research about what average salary is being offered in the industry for this role and responsibility. Tell the interviewer about it.
  • Don’t make demands, instead, ask questions.
  • Don’t give a particular figure. State a salary range based on your research. Make it evident that you are ready to walk off the job if the lower extreme of the range stated by you is not crossed.
  • Advice: If the job profile shall provide you with the opportunity that you needed for paving your career or if it shall help you learn new skills and provides scope for improvement, then CONSIDER the decision of settling down at the lower range of the salary scale. But, here also, never agree to a payment that is less than the current salary that you are getting unless you want to switch the industry or make the changeover in your career path.
