The heart beats like an alarm while the mind is full of questions like ‘what would happen?’, ‘how would it happen?’, ‘what to do and what not to do?’

So, we, the team of ‘Freshers Wisdom’ have decided to bring together a set of advice and suggestions regarding job interview preparations. This will not only help you to prepare yourself for the big event but will also help you polish your techniques and calm your excited nerves because ‘presentation does matter!

 

First, let us understand the different TYPES of interviews:

  • One-to-one: Face-to-face with a single interviewer.
  • Panel: Similar to one-to-one interviews, except for the fact that there are two or more interviewers.
  • Telephonic: A telephone call is made to the prospective candidate for assessing certain essential or technical criteria. Applicants successful in this stage are usually invited to the next stage of one-to-one interviews.
  • Video: These days, trending technologies like Skype, Face-time, or YouTube are being used to save time and energy. It helps to bridge the distance gap and to avoid unnecessary traveling.

How to prepare for an Interview Questions and Answers?

Pre-interview

  • Prepare/Review & Update your Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV). For a sample, click here.
  • Research about the company – mainly the profile and background; through the company’s website, social media profiles, annual report, and their business articles, press releases. Make the best use of all the available resources.
  • Get yourself acquainted with all the news, trends, history, and opportunities of the organization. You even need to know about the company’s competitors. The company’s job sector repo, work culture, and goodwill should not be missed out on.
  • ‘P3 is the key’ – Prepare, prepare & prepare for your job profile. You should be aware of all your skills, abilities, and shortcomings as well. Remember ‘Not every person suits every job and not every job suits every person!’ So, assess the job profile and then decide if you desire to get placed for this job.
    E. Anticipate the probable questions that can come from the interviewer and prepare your answers beforehand. This will help you boost your confidence.

On the Day of Interview: Let’s call it your “Impression day”

  • Dress Well: ‘The first impression is the last impression’. Wear smart business attire with polished shoes. However, don’t compromise on comfortability. You should be comfortable with what you wear. That’s the prerequisite to be able to focus. Your hair should be neat, clean, and sober.
  • Be ‘on time’: Know the exact place and time of the interview. Collect details of the person whom you shall meet/report to upon arrival (name and contact details at least). Be there 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time.
  • Documents: Be organized. Keep a file folder with originals and a minimum of two copies of each of your resume, all exam results/scorecard/certificates, valid identity card. Carry your interview invitation letter along with you. Line up these documents in sorted order in the folder so that the process of withdrawing one document out of them is hassle-free.
  • Greet the interviewer(s) with a smile on your face and give a firm handshake.
  • Be enthusiastic and confident, display positive body language, speak clearly, smile frequently, and retain eye contact with the interviewer(s). Remember, you are being judged on this as well.
  • Be honest and keep things simple and short. Try to highlight your eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Do keep a few questions ready to ask the interviewer(s). This will showcase your interest in the job and the organization.

Post-Interview

  • Greet the interviewer(s) with a smile on your face and give a firm handshake.
  • Inform the interviewer that you are available to answer follow-up questions if any.
  • Do send a ‘Thank you’ mail for having got the opportunity of appearing in the interview.
